Presentation



Hi. My name is Felipe Garin and I’m twenty three years old. The place of my birth is Santiago, Chile. I have a sister. Her name is Thyare and she’s younger than me. A few years ago, our mother (Cecilia) and father (Claudio) got divorced. Since then, we’ve been living here and there.


I never went to a day-nursery and neither pre-kindergarten. I studied at a school located at Maipú (elementary and high school). After that, I tried to study Law at Universidad de Chile. It didn’t last too much. Finally, I’m here studding Psychology because I’m really interested in human’s path.

Music It’s strange. When I was a kid, I remember that my friends asked me several times about the music I liked, my favorite band, etc., and I always answered ‘I don’t know’. I can’t explain it very well. Maybe I just couldn’t find the feelings on it. However, little by little, the music started to arrive to my life. When I had to decide for a career, I was worried about the subjects I would learn and how the university would broach them. So I applied to Psychology at Universidad de Chile, especially because I realized it shares the faculty with other disciplines that are related to the social area too (‘Facultad de Ciencias Sociales’). In that sense, I would say that I admire the way Víctor Jara lived and died. I believe he could understand the spirit of their fellow countrymen and fellow countrywomen. He was born on 1932. The family was poor. His mother and father were always at work; he was illiterate, she knew how to read a little bit. Almost everybody thinks that Victor only was a singer, but he participated on the chorus of the church, he went to the military, he studied to be an actor (instead of that, he preferred to direct), he went over this country to rescue popular poetry and he took part of one of the greatest moments of the chilean history (brief, but deeply intense). Usually, the notion of technology is related with the usefulness. In that case, probably the most useful object is the mobile phone, because it’s got a lot of functions that the humans of our time need. But, if I have to choose, my favourite piece of technology would be the camera. I’ve been wondering about the memory and how fragile it is. Fragile because we forget almost everything that happens in the daily life, but also because sometimes we just need a tiny stimulus to recreate old memories. In my opinion, the photograph is an excellent way to do that. The camera helps me to remind how our streets were and how our faces have changed. It could be interpreted as a desperate act of trying to register everything. However, I think that’s impossible for the camera and for me.
